The 8week term of 1 hour per week will teach you the basic movements of belly dancing after warming up and stretching. Movements will be consolidated each week, adding new steps which we put together into a short dance.

Strengthen technique developed from beginners (1) classes, students will sharpen up their technique, add new moves and learn more about transitions, layering movements in this class. We will also focus on improving the essential basics such as Shimmying, camels, walking and turns etc.

You will be able to do a drum paired solo dance at the end of the course.

Intermediate classes include more challenging muscle and isolation strengthening, layering of hips, chest and arm movements, and more complex travelling patterns, spins and turns to explore.

Veil will be incorporated into the dance, students should bring veil to every class.

In class we will continue to build up the foundation movements of the dance.

You will be able to do a classical veil dance at the end of the course.

Students gain an understanding of the choreography process and focus on precise technique, use of space, body composition, formations, musicality, and expression. The final piece is performed for an audience. When we are finished with this choreography, you will be a moving art!

All sessions are prop-focused; you need find the prop of your choice. Such as veil, zills, cane, poi-veil, or Chinese 杅an dance.

You will be able to use prop of your choice for a solo dance at the end of the course.

This class is designs for the more serious students who have taken at least 4 intermediate level courses. Students will learn longer and more challenging choreography here. You will need more practise time at home. $180 / 8 lessons.

The choreographed classes are: little beladi, and Turkish style drum solo etc.

This class is design for professional level students and open for invitation only, complex group and individual choreographed dances will be covered in the course, you create and stage your own dance here. You will be invited to the Belly dance Extraordinaire Dance Company with many performance and promotional opportunities.

Fixed courses are not for everyone. Perhaps there is something special you want to work on, perhaps you need a particular time. Private class may be the good choice.

1 What is Belly Dance?

Belly dance is gentle form of dance that can be enjoyed by most people. To enjoy this dance you don’t need extreme flexibility or strength. The dance is focused on the torso and hips and can lead to improved muscle tone in the abdominal area. Most people also gain increased flexibility and a slight fitness boost.

There are definite ways of moving and interpreting the music. "Belly dance" is not merely free expression. You will be guided to feel the music and express it with your body. Although in its original form "belly dance" is a solo improvised dance with little use of space, classes will also look at travelling steps, use of veil, and combinations.

2 Is there an age limit?

This dance form can be done by all ages.

3 What do I wear?

Comfortable wear

Wear clothes that are suitable to move in and your hips and legs can be seen. T-shirts & leggings are fine, even a leotard. Please avoid jeans or full, opaque skirts.

Bare feet are fine

Some people may prefer to wear ballet shoes. No Street shoes inside.

Fabric to tie around the hips

Student can bring their fringed scarves or use their veils. I prefer silent hip belts in this class.

4 Why small classes?

Small class means plenty of one on one attention and more flexibility in the pace of learning.

Students can get to know each other. If classes of over 20 students, some may feel isolated.

5 How do I sign up for a course?

If you already have a group of 4-8 people contact Jamila to find a time that suits you all.

Otherwise register your interest for a class. Once there are enough people interested for a course at a particular day & time you will be contacted. Payment will be required before the start of the first class.

1 没有舞蹈基础可以学习肚皮舞吗?

当然可以,肚皮舞是非常适合人体的舞蹈,同时也是歌颂生命的舞蹈,所以即使没有舞蹈基础的人通过课程的练习也可以跳出自信的肚皮舞!

2 肚皮舞难学吗?

学会肚皮舞并非一件难事。只要掌握了一些常用的肚皮舞基础动作,掌握了一些简单的步伐和手势,就能够随着音乐即兴起舞、“秀”上一段了。

3 跳肚皮舞肚子会变大吗?

首先应该说明的是,许多肚皮舞舞娘之所以腰肢圆润,并不是跳肚皮舞跳出来的,而是她们有意为之,在埃及体态丰盈是他们对女性普遍的审美标准。体态丰盈也会让一些动作,比如西米的视觉效果更加强烈,更具有观赏性。而实际上,单就跳肚皮舞本身而言,不仅不会使你的腹部变大,而且会有很好的减脂的效果,腹部多层次的运动还可以增强身体器官的代谢和循环,排除体内垃圾,腹部不仅会变得更加平坦,而且会更有弹性。因此,如果你是以瘦为美,那么就坚持少吃多运动的原则,放心去跳肚皮舞吧!

4 肚皮舞可不可以减肥?中老年人可不可以跳?

首先,肚皮舞当中有大量的腰腹胯的动作,可以使身体中段部位在各个方向上得到充分的挤压和伸拉,不仅能达到燃脂的效果,而且可以增强腹腔器官的代谢循环,促进体内垃圾排出。其次,大部分以腰腹胯为核心的动作还需要臀部,腿部其它部位的配合才能完美地完成,因此腿部肌肉也能得到充分的锻炼,从而达到提臀美腿的效果。另外,肚皮舞中丰富而优美的手臂姿态更是为其他运动方式所不及的。当我们跟着音乐节拍进行组合练习时,已经不知不觉中地修饰了手臂线条。慢慢地你的腰线、两侧髋部的线条……曲线也会更加明显。由于肚皮舞是一种低强度、长时间、有节奏的运动,是以练习为基础的,因此适合任何年龄阶段的女性人群,没有舞蹈基础都可以,格外受中老年人的喜欢。

5 学习肚皮舞需要准备什么?

6 肚皮舞一定要打赤脚吗?

肚皮舞在古代是一种宗教仪式,舞者通常是打着赤脚,意思是亲近土地和大自然做最直接的接触!有些舞者因为表演为求美观,也会穿着专门的舞鞋,所以可以依自己的情况和表演而选择是否穿鞋!初学者还是建议先赤脚练习一阵子之后,最好是进入了更高一级的课程再考虑是否穿着高跟鞋练习!避免足部受伤!

7 肚皮舞的道具还有哪些?

基本上除了腰巾之外,纱巾、手杖、小烛台、大烛台、刀、指钹、鼓都是跳肚皮舞会使用到的道具 。从中级班开始就会涉及这些道具的运用。

8 肚皮舞男生可不可以跳?

肚皮舞是不分年龄也不分性别的舞蹈,基本上你有学习的热忱即可,在中东也有很多知名的男性肚皮舞者,男性肚皮舞者的动作和女性的肚皮舞者动作的原理相同,只是诠释的方式和手部的动作有所不同,像女生手部多用蛇型手臂等较阴柔的动作,而男生大多是握拳和手掌伸直的手势,因此男性舞者更要强调力道和Power,而女性舞者强调的是柔媚和韵味。

9 如何安排肚皮舞的练习频率?

肚皮舞练习频率因人而异,怎样安排主要是看你学跳肚皮舞的目的。

如果你跳肚皮舞是为了健身、减肥,那么每周至少安排三次练习肚皮舞的时间,每次半小时。练习可以随时随地,就算坐在办公室的电脑前,也可以随意的活动肩腹部,当然如果每天都能坚持练习,效果会更好。

如果你是想向更专业的方向发展,跳得更美更好,那么就要花尽量多的练习时间了,如果想成为一个专业的舞者,如果想跳得更好,那么就不要太吝惜练习的时间和频率,要相信一份耕耘,一份收获。

11 练习肚皮舞的益处?

肚皮舞锻炼到各个关节

从动作层面来说,其它健身方式(如瑜伽、芭蕾、有氧等)大部分的动作元素都只是锻炼到了肢体和躯干,而肚皮舞能锻炼到肩膀、手肘、手腕、膝盖等人体各个关节部位,关节周围的韧带、小肌肉群也都被锻炼到,从而加强全身肌肉关节的柔韧、弹性和力度。
